"Thure de Thulstrup: Capturing History through Engravings and Drawings" Step into the past with Thure de Thulstrup, a renowned artist whose works vividly depict significant moments in history. From baseball games to military scenes, his engravings and drawings capture the essence of various eras. In "A Ball or a Strike - Which?" we witness an intense baseball match from 1888, as players anxiously await the umpire's call. Thulstrup's attention to detail brings this exhilarating moment to life. Traveling north to Wisconsin in 1885, we find ourselves amidst the bustling lumber industry. Through Thulstrup's wood engraving titled "Wisconsin: Lumbering, " we witness loggers hard at work, showcasing their strength and determination. Moving on to law enforcement, "Arresting Deserters" takes us back to 1896 when desertion was dealt with firmly. The scene depicts authorities apprehending those who abandoned their duties during times of conflict. The Louisiana Purchase ceremony of 1803 is beautifully portrayed in New Orleans through one of Thulstrup's engravings. This historical event marked a significant expansion for the United States and forever changed its landscape. Stepping into high society culture, we find ourselves outside the Metropolitan Opera House in 1894 after a captivating performance. Venturing eastward towards Russia, Thure de Thulstrup introduces us to various aspects of Russian Cossack life.
