Troopers, the unsung heroes of history, have left an indelible mark on the annals of time. From The Light Dragoons in 1790 to their disbandment in 1992, these valiant warriors epitomized courage and dedication. One such momentous occasion was witnessed as the Lancers of the 5th Royal Irish Lancers departed Mons, leaving a trail of honor behind them. Sketches of the British Army captured their essence with vivid color lithographs that immortalized their bravery. Even during times of turmoil like King Charles I bidding farewell to his children amidst the Civil War, troopers stood steadfastly by his side, ready to defend him till their last breath. Across borders and continents, from the Iberian Peninsula to Castilian soldiers marching resolutely forward - these troopers embodied unwavering loyalty. Innovation became synonymous with troopers when two mounted troops from the British Army Rocket Brigade emerged in 1827 after Congreve's rocket triumphs dating back to 1804. Their creation marked a turning point in warfare tactics. The regal presence of Royal Horse Guard Sentries at Horseguards Parade in London evokes awe even today; they stand as sentinels protecting our heritage and traditions. A testament to this legacy is seen through artifacts like Pattern 1796 Heavy Cavalry Trooper's sword - a symbol of strength wielded by those who rode fearlessly into battle. Yet it wasn't just on distant battlegrounds where troopers made their mark; they were also present during domestic unrest like riots at Salter Hebble in Halifax. Their duty extended beyond national boundaries as well – World War II saw victorious American soldiers liberating Paris alongside fellow troopers. Amongst these gallant individuals stands Major (Brevet Lt-Col) James John Hugonin from the esteemed 4th Light Dragoons – a shining example of leadership and valor.
