Procession of of Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna to the Cathedral of the Dormition, Moscow, 1856. The coronation of Emperor Alexander II (1818-1881) and Empress Maria Alexandrovna (1824-1880) took place on 7 September 1856 at the Dormition Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin. Born Princess Charlotte of Prussia, Alexandra Feodorovna (1798-1860) was the widow of Tsar Nicholas I and the mother of Alexander II. Found in the collection of the State Museum of History, Moscow

Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich of Russia, c1860-c1862. Grand Duke Alexei (1850-1908) was the sixth child and fourth son of Tsar Alexander II and his first wife, Maria Alexandrovna. He served in the Russian Navy and was appointed General Admiral in 1883. He oversaw the acquisition on new ships and the modernisation of the Navy's bases, but was dismissed from his command and retired after the disastrous defeat at the Battle of Tsushima in 1905 during the Russo-Japanese War.
