A glimpse into the past: Princess Mary's Peace Procession in 1919, where V.A.D.s (Voluntary Aid Detachments) played a pivotal role. In this color lithograph, V.A.D.s, including nurses and probable airmen, are seen outside Montgomery House, eagerly awaiting the Princess's passing. The Powell-Cotton daughters and their friend join the crowd, their faces filled with excitement. Meanwhile, at Quex Park Hospital, Belgian patients and V.A.D. Staff work together in C Ward, their dedication evident in their focused expressions. The same camaraderie is seen in A Ward, where the atmosphere is one of hope and healing. V.A.D.s also served in French hospitals during the First World War, as seen in this poignant image of a V.A.D. Matron and nurses tending to wounded soldiers. And let us not forget the crucial role of Red Cross ambulances, like the one depicted in this photograph from the war, in transporting the injured to safety and care.
