The willet, scientifically known as Catoptrophorus semipalmatus, is a fascinating bird species found in various parts of the United States. In its adult non-breeding plumage, this majestic creature can be seen stretching its wings and legs while standing on the sandy beaches of Florida. It gracefully walks through the incoming surf, leaving footprints behind as it explores its coastal habitat. During breeding season in April, the willet transforms into a stunning sight with its vibrant breeding plumage. Wading through the waters of South Padre Island in Texas, it exudes elegance and grace. The willet takes a moment to quench its thirst from a freshwater source on this island paradise. In July, these birds can be observed calling out while soaring through the skies above Wyoming. Their distinctive calls fill the air as they navigate their way across vast landscapes. As winter approaches, willets gather together at water's edge along beaches or shores. They stand united in their winter plumage, ready to forage for food amidst breaking waves or within shallow waters. With Fort de Soto in Florida serving as their playground during this time of year, these birds display remarkable agility both on land and in flight. Sometimes sharing their roosting spots with marbled godwits during high tide evenings in Bodega Bay, California; these social creatures find solace and companionship among fellow shorebirds. The willet is truly an enchanting species that captivates observers with its beauty and behavior throughout different seasons and locations across America's coastlines.
