The enigmatic figures of the Three Wise Men, also known as the Magi, continue to captivate our imaginations as they follow the star's celestial guidance to the Nativity scene. In "The Adoration of the Magi" (Ms. LAT. 446 fol. 2v), the sages are depicted studying the stars intently, their determined expressions hinting at the intellectual pursuit behind their journey. In another rendition, the Magi are shown riding on horseback, bringing gifts to the newborn King, as depicted in "The Adoration of the Magi" (late 16th century, tempera on gold ground panel). The intrigue of the Three Wise Men's story is further emphasized in "The Three Magi" (oil on copper, started in 1860 and reworked after 1882), where their individual expressions and postures convey a sense of wonder, reverence, and awe. The mystique of these wise men, who came from the East to pay homage to the newborn Christ Child, continues to inspire artists and storytellers alike.
