Gidgee forest (Acacia cambagei)

Gidgee forest (Acacia cambagei). Gidgee replaces Brigalow (Acacia harpophylla) as rainfall falls below 550 mm per year and lies in a belt west of the Brigalow belt, forming part of the extensive acacia-dominated forest woodland shrublands of inland Australia. Like Brigalow, it has been cleared over large areas for pastoral and agricultural development, particularly in the east of its range, but has suffered less than Brigalow since it occupies semi-arid lands further inland which is only suitable for rangeland grazing. Oak woodland on Dartmoor

Oak woodland on Dartmoor. Moss-covered stunted oak trees and rocks in Black-a-Tor Copse, a woodland area located at an altitude of around 380 metres in the West Okement River valley, Dartmoor, Devon, UK. The altitude and conditions give rise to stunted growth, with pedunculate oak trees (Quercus robur) covered in mosses, ferns and lichens, which also cover the rocks. The wood is a rare relict of the ancient high-level woodlands of Dartmoor. This site is a National Nature Reserve (NNR), and is within the North Dartmoor Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Designated since 1952, this SSSI was extended to include this copse
