EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Antonio Lopez Coloma, a remarkable man who left an indelible mark on Cuba's history. Born in Sabanilla in 1859, Coloma was not only a settler but also a skilled telegrapher. The image showcases his strong and dignified presence, dressed impeccably in a suit that exudes sophistication. Intriguingly, this portrait was taken during the 1920s, offering us a glimpse into the life of this influential figure from another era. With his distinguished beard and intense gaze looking away from the camera, Coloma emanates an air of mystery and determination. The monochrome aesthetic adds depth to this historical snapshot, emphasizing its timeless quality. It is evident that Coloma's story is one intertwined with Cuba's rich heritage - a narrative encompassing resilience and sacrifice. Notably associated with the demolished ingenio La Ignacia where he valiantly fought on February 24th before being apprehended on the 28th, Coloma tragically met his fate at Cabana on November 26th, 1896. This photograph serves as both a tribute to his memory and an emblematic representation of Cuban history. Preserved through time by The Print Collector29 and originating from Geografico Universal's History of Cuba series for Susini y La Corona Cigarros' propaganda campaign under Tabacalera Cubana; it stands as testament to Antonio Lopez Coloma's significance within North and Central America
