EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases "The Baton of Marshal Jourdan" a significant artifact from the late 18th to early 19th century. The wooden baton, elegantly covered with blue velvet and adorned with golden eagles, once belonged to the esteemed Marshal Jean-Baptiste Jourdan (1762-1833). This symbol of authority was granted to generals for their exceptional achievements on the battlefield. However, this particular baton's story took an unexpected turn during the Battle of Vitoria on June 21,1813. It was at this momentous battle that General Marquess of Wellington led a combined British, Portuguese, and Spanish army in capturing Marshal Jourdan himself. With his capture came the loss of his cherished baton. Now preserved as part of the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle, this remarkable piece serves as a reminder not only of Marshal Jourdan's accomplishments but also of the turbulent times during which it existed. The intricate craftsmanship displayed in its wooden structure and luxurious velvet covering is truly awe-inspiring. Through this close-up photograph captured by The Print Collector29 using panoramic photography techniques, viewers can appreciate every detail: from the regal golden eagles adorning its surface to the rich blue hue that envelops it. Against a pristine white background within a letterbox format frame, this image beautifully captures both artistry and history intertwined into one extraordinary object.
