Baynards, from the Rose Garden, 1911, (1914). Artist: Jamess Ogilvy

Baynards, from the Rose Garden, 1911, (1914). Baynards Park is a 2, 000 acre privately owned estate in Cranleigh and Ewhurst, Surrey. The early Tudor property located in Baynards Park occasionally hosted hunting parties for King Henry VIII (1491-1547). In 1587 the estate was bought by George More of Loseley (1553-1632), who replaced the Tudor property with an Elizabethan manor house. From A Pilgrimage In Surrey, Vol. 2, by James S. Ogilvy. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Baynards, from the Rose Garden, 1911" takes us back in time to a moment of tranquility and grandeur. The artist behind this masterpiece is Jamess Ogilvy, who beautifully captures the essence of Baynards Park, a privately owned estate spanning over 2,000 acres in Cranleigh and Ewhurst, Surrey. The history surrounding Baynards Park adds an extra layer of fascination to this image. Once frequented by none other than King Henry VIII himself during hunting parties, this early Tudor property holds centuries worth of stories within its walls. In 1587, George More of Loseley took ownership and replaced the original Tudor structure with an exquisite Elizabethan manor house. From the vantage point of the rose garden depicted in this photograph, one can imagine strolling through lush greenery while admiring the architectural beauty that surrounds them. It's as if time stands still within these grounds; a serene oasis frozen in history. This particular print comes from James S. Ogilvy's book "A Pilgrimage In Surrey" published by George Routledge & Sons Limited in London in 1914. Its inclusion here allows us to appreciate not only Ogilvy's artistic talent but also his dedication to capturing and preserving moments of historical significance for future generations.
