EDITORS COMMENTS
This print depicts the Church of St. Andrew in Dublin during its construction in 1862. The previous church, with the exception of the tower, was destroyed by fire in January 1860. The new design, overseen by Messrs. Lanyon, Lynn, and Lanyon of Belfast, was inspired by the Early Decorated period of Gothic architecture. The new church, once completed, would be capable of accommodating 1000 persons. The foundation stone of St. Andrew's Church was laid by the Lord Lieutenant in the presence of a distinguished gathering of ladies and gentlemen, including leading Protestant parishioners and esteemed citizens of Dublin. The architectural masterpiece, with its intricate details and towering spire, is depicted in this engraving as it rose from the ground. The design, reminiscent of the Victorian Gothic and Neo-Gothic styles, showcases the grandeur and intricacy of the Gothic Revival period. The Church of St. Andrew, with its steeple reaching towards the heavens, stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the community and their commitment to rebuilding their place of worship.
