EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic Miles Magister aeroplane, a British 2-seat monoplane basic trainer aircraft that was built by Miles Aircraft for the Royal Air Force and Fleet Air Arm in 1938. Affectionately known as the Maggie, this remarkable aircraft was based on Miles civilian Hawk Major and Hawk Trainer models and holds the distinction of being the first monoplane designed specifically as a trainer for the RAF. With its low-wing monoplane design, the Magister proved to be an ideal introduction to legendary fighter planes like Spitfire and Hurricane for new pilots. Its presence in the skies instilled confidence in those who would go on to defend Britain during World War II. The photograph itself is a color print from 1938, originally featured on the front cover of Flying magazine. Against a backdrop of fluffy white clouds, this image captures both the beauty and power of aviation. The vibrant colors bring life to every detail of this historic aircraft. As we gaze upon this print, we are reminded of not only its significance within military history but also its contribution to advancing air transport technology. This stunning visual representation serves as a testament to human ingenuity and determination in pushing boundaries beyond what was thought possible at that time.
