Isaac Newton, English mathematician and physicist
Isaac Newton, English mathematician and physicist. English scientist and mathematician Isaac Newtons (1642-1727) discoveries were prolific and exerted a huge influence on science and thought. His theories of gravity and his three laws of motion were outlined in his greatest work, Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, (1687) and he is credited with discovering differential calculus. He also formulated theories regarding optics and the nature of light that led to him building the first reflecting telescope. Knighted by Queen Anne in 1705, Newton is buried in Westminster Abbey, London. After the portrait by Enoch Seeman

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the brilliant mind of Isaac Newton, an iconic figure in the world of science and mathematics. Isaac Newton, an English mathematician and physicist, left an indelible mark on history with his groundbreaking discoveries that continue to shape our understanding of the universe. In this portrait by Enoch Seeman the Younger, we see a distinguished man with curly hair and a pensive expression. His deep-set eyes reflect his intellect and determination to unravel the mysteries of nature. As one of England's most celebrated scientists, Newton's theories on gravity and motion revolutionized scientific thought during the 17th and 18th centuries. Newton's greatest work, "Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica" published in 1687, laid out his three laws of motion as well as his theory of gravity. Additionally, he made significant contributions to optics and invented the first reflecting telescope. Knighted by Queen Anne in 1705 for his exceptional achievements, Sir Isaac Newton rests eternally at Westminster Abbey in London. This portrait serves as a timeless tribute to a pioneer whose ideas continue to inspire generations after him. As we gaze upon this remarkable image captured by Enoch Seeman II, we are reminded not only of Newton's immense contributions but also of the power that lies within human curiosity and ingenuity.
