EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the essence of Jules Ferry, a prominent French statesman from the late 19th century. Taken in 1884, this portrait showcases Ferry's distinguished presence as he sits on a garden path, exuding confidence and authority. Dressed impeccably in formal attire with his signature hat and walking cane by his side, Ferry epitomizes the elegance of the era. Known for serving as Prime Minister of France twice during his career, Ferry played a significant role in advocating for French colonial expansion. His dedication to politics and commitment to his country made him an influential figure during the Third Republic. Beyond his political accomplishments, this image also reveals another facet of Ferry's life - that of a loving family man. With a young boy standing beside him who is believed to be his grandson, we catch a glimpse into the personal side of this esteemed statesman. Tragically, Ferry's life was cut short when he was assassinated in March 1893. However, through this remarkable photograph taken nearly ten years prior to his untimely death, we are reminded of Jules Francois Camille Ferry's enduring legacy as one of France's most notable politicians and advocates for colonialism.
