EDITORS COMMENTS
This engraving is a tribute to the late George Edward Arundell Monckton Arundell, the 6th Viscount Galway and Member of Parliament for East Retford, who passed away in 1876. Born in 1805, Viscount Galway received his education at Harrow and Christ Church, Oxford, where he obtained his degree. In 1838, he married his cousin, Miss Henrietta Milnes, and entered politics, representing East Retford in the House of Commons. A Conservative by political affiliation, he served as a Lord-in-Waiting to Queen Victoria under Lord Derby's Government in 1852. The late Viscount Galway was the son of the fifth Viscount Galway and Baron Killard. He was born into the Anglo-Irish aristocracy and left behind a son, about thirty years of age, to inherit the title.
