This photograph was captured by the renowned Harris & Ewing photographic studio, specifically by George W. Harris or one of his associates. The image shows Garrison in a formal attire, seated in a chair with his hands resting on a table. His stern expression and piercing gaze convey a sense of seriousness and determination. Lindley Miller Garrison was born on October 23, 1860, in New York City. He began his political career as a member of the Republican Party and served in various positions, including as a member of the New York State Assembly and as a U.S. Representative. In 1913, President Woodrow Wilson appointed him as the Secretary of War, making him a key figure in the early years of the Wilson administration. During his tenure as Secretary of War, Garrison oversaw the expansion of the military and the modernization of the Army and Navy. He also played a role in the Mexican Revolution and the Pancho Villa Expedition. After leaving the Cabinet, Garrison continued to be active in politics and was a delegate to the 1920 Republican National Convention. He passed away on February 23, 1933. This photograph is an important historical document that captures a significant moment in American political history. It is part of the Harris & Ewing Collection at the Library of Congress, which contains over 120,000 glass negatives and 30,000 prints. The collection is a valuable resource for scholars, historians, and anyone interested in the history of the United States.
