This photograph, titled 'L'Occupation de Damas; L'Emir Feycal, fils du cherif Hussein, roi du Hedjaz, entre a Damas le 2 octobre a la tete des troupes arabes' (Occupation of Damascus; Emir Feycal, son of Cherif Hussein, King of Hejaz, enters Damascus on October 2 at the head of Arab troops), was published in L'Album de la Guerre 1914-1919, Volume 2 by L'Illustration, Paris, in 1924. The image captures a pivotal moment during the Syrian Campaign of the First World War, as Emir Faisal I bin Hussein bin Ali Al-Hashimi, then the Emir of Hejaz and future King of Iraq, exits an hotel in Damascus, Syria. Accompanied by his Arab forces, Faisal meets with General Allenby outside, marking the beginning of the Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire. The Emir, dressed in military attire and mounted on horseback, stands at the center of the photograph, surrounded by a sea of soldiers and onlookers. This evocative image offers a glimpse into the complex political landscape of the Middle East during the early 20th century and the struggle for power and independence in the region.
