Margaret of Scotland, c 1483, (1910)

Margaret of Scotland, c 1483, (1910). Margaret was the Danish queen of James III of Scotland. Her headdress is an intermediate style between the butterfly and the pyramidal. It developed from the horned, or rather forked, headdress - the cleft at the upper part being now closed up. The cauls are embellished with pearls. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Margaret of Scotland, a remarkable figure from the 15th century. As the Danish queen of James III of Scotland, she exudes elegance and regality in her exquisite medieval attire. Her headdress is a fascinating blend between the butterfly and pyramidal styles, representing an evolution from the earlier forked headdress. The upper cleft has now been closed up, creating a unique intermediate design that sets her apart. The attention to detail in this portrait is truly awe-inspiring. Margaret's cauls are adorned with lustrous pearls, adding a touch of opulence to her already stunning ensemble. She radiates grace and poise as she gazes into the distance, embodying all that it means to be a powerful female ruler during this era. Emily Jessie Ashdown beautifully captures Margaret's essence through this timeless image. The monochrome aesthetic adds depth and character to the photograph while emphasizing its historical significance. This print serves as both an artistic masterpiece and a valuable historical artifact. As we admire Margaret's beauty and strength portrayed in this image, we are transported back in time to witness her reign as queen over Scotland. It is through prints like these that we can appreciate the rich heritage of our ancestors and gain insight into their lives centuries ago.
