EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Marshal Ferdinand Foch, the esteemed French general and Allied Supreme Commander during World War I. Taken in 1919 by an unknown creator, this portrait captures the essence of a man who played a pivotal role in shaping history. Foch's appointment as supreme commander came at a critical juncture in the war. Just five days after the start of Germany's Spring Offensive, which posed a significant threat to the Allies' victory, Foch assumed command. His strategic brilliance became evident when he successfully halted the German advance at the Second Battle of Marne in July 1918.
