Paris Fashions for October, 1850....a dress of Canton linen, or white coutil; high body, ornamented with embroidery in braiding, with a like pardessus, ...embroidered like the dress; wide sleeves and under-sleeves, with festoons. In all toilets the collars and the habit-shirts, which are worn with open bodies, and the dresses, are ornamented in the same manner as the sleeves: cap trimmed with Mechlin lace and Pompadour ribbons. Dress of Scotch plaid popelin, with pardessus of the same, having a point behind; also generally worn round, and without the point in front. Dress of grenadine, open body, and trimmed with full braiding, carried down to the bottom of the skirt, to form an apron. For the little boy, a blouse of coutil, cloth, or velvet, with somewhat wide sleeves; the collar, the under sleeves, and the trousers, of cambric muslin, short, ornamented with English embroidery.
