EDITORS COMMENTS
The Prince and Princess of Wales, His Royal Highness Prince Albert Edward, later King Edward VII, and Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra of Denmark, make their public appearance after the Prince's recovery from a severe bout of typhoid fever in 1891. The photograph captures the moment of their departure from Windsor Castle in a horse-drawn carriage, with the Princess in a elegant white dress and a hat adorned with ostrich feathers, and the Prince in a dark suit and top hat. The scene is set against the backdrop of the lush English countryside, with trees and hedgerows lining the road. The Prince, who had been gravely ill, was making his first public appearance since falling ill in February of that year. The recovery of the heir to the throne was a cause for great relief and celebration among the British people, and this image of the Prince and Princess driving out together was widely published in newspapers and magazines of the time. This evocative photograph by renowned English illustrator George Housman Thomas captures the spirit of the moment and the hope and optimism that accompanied the Prince's recovery.
