EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the historic moment of Flight Lieutenant PWS Bulman test flying the prototype Hawker Hurricane in 1935. As Chief Test Pilot for Hawker Aircraft, Bulman played a crucial role in shaping the future of aviation during this era. The image showcases the sleek design of the Hurricane, an aircraft that would go on to become one of the RAF's mainstays and play a vital role during the Battle of Britain. With its propeller spinning and wings soaring through the air, it symbolizes both power and grace. Bulman himself was a pioneer in his field, making first flights in numerous aircraft for Hawker. His expertise and bravery were instrumental in pushing boundaries and advancing aviation technology. This print is taken from Lawrence Fairhall's book "British Fighters" published in 1941 amidst World War II. The monochrome aesthetic adds a timeless quality to this remarkable snapshot from history. As we admire this image, let us remember not only the incredible engineering behind these machines but also those who fearlessly piloted them into battle. It serves as a reminder of their courage and sacrifice during one of humanity's darkest times.
