Three attempts were made on the queens life between 1840 and 1842, by Edward Oxford, John Francis, or John William Bean. Oxford was found to be insane and transferred to a criminal lunatic asylum, Francis received the sentence of Transportation for Life, with hard labour, and Bean was sentenced to eighteen months imprisonment.
