This powerful print captures the striking Putilov workers on the first day of the February Revolution in St Petersburg, Russia, in 1917. The image showcases a pivotal moment in history when these workers took to the streets to protest against their working conditions and ultimately played a significant role in bringing down the Tsar's regime. The Putilov Plant, depicted here as a backdrop to this historic event, was not only one of the largest machine-building factories in St Petersburg but also served as a symbol of industrial oppression. As the largest employer in the city at that time, strikes by its workforce became catalysts for change and ignited widespread rebellion throughout Russia. Overwhelmed with determination and armed with banners demanding justice, these demonstrators march through the streets with unwavering resolve. Their unified presence reflects both their resilience and their belief that they can shape their own destiny. Today, this iconic photograph is housed within the collection of the State Museum of Political History of Russia in St Petersburg. It serves as a reminder of how ordinary people can rise up against injustice and inspire generations to come. This image stands as an enduring testament to those who fought for freedom during one of history's most transformative periods - The Russian Revolution.
