EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the grandeur and rich history of Everton Olympia, a renowned theatre in Liverpool. The image showcases a view from the circle, offering an enchanting perspective across the auditorium and former stage. What was once a bustling space for theatrical performances is now filled with tables, hinting at its transformation over time. Everton Olympia first opened its doors to eager audiences in 1905, welcoming patrons into its majestic halls. In 1925, it underwent a temporary closure before reopening as a cinema, adapting to the changing entertainment landscape. However, like many establishments during that tumultuous period, it closed again in 1939 due to the outbreak of World War II. Following the war's end, Everton Olympia found new life as a ballroom in 1948—a place where music and dance intertwined under its ornate Moorish-inspired architecture. From thereon until 1982 and later from 1987-1990, it served as an exciting bingo hall for those seeking moments of thrill and chance. In more recent times—during this vibrant era—the historic venue has been repurposed into a live events venue. Its walls have witnessed countless concerts and gatherings that continue to breathe life into this architectural gem. Through Norman Walley's lens, we are transported back through time to witness Everton Olympia's evolution—an enduring testament to Liverpool's cultural heritage.
