EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic Woolworths store located in Leyton, Greater London. The image showcases the Lea Bridge Road elevation of the F W Woolworth and Co Ltd store, as seen from the north. Originally numbered as store 129, this beloved establishment opened its doors in 1923 and quickly became a staple of the community. Renumbered as Woolworths store 2024 in later years, it stood proudly with two distinct facades - one facing Lea Bridge Road and another smaller entrance on High Road to the north-east. The architectural beauty of this building is evident through its art deco design and classic faience detailing. A true representation of 1920s retro charm, this vintage gem holds nostalgic memories for many who frequented its aisles. Sadly, like many other cherished establishments, Woolworths closed its doors in 2008. However, it found new life when transformed into an Iceland store at a later date. Nicholas Anthony John Philpot's expertly captured photograph not only preserves a piece of history but also pays homage to an era when shopping was an experience filled with wonder and excitement. This print serves as a reminder of how timeless classics can leave lasting imprints on our hearts and minds.
