EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we are transported back to the Edwardian era in rural Maidstone, Kent. The image captures a distinguished man wearing a bowler hat and glasses, exuding an air of sophistication and charm. Standing proudly outside a charming weatherboarded house in Broomfield, he seems perfectly at home amidst the idyllic countryside. Photographed by Katherine J. Macfee on the 4th of April 1904, this snapshot offers us a glimpse into the life of this enigmatic figure. Interestingly enough, within the negative index for this collection, it is noted that our protagonist was not only known for his impeccable style but also as the proud owner of turkeys, cocks, and hens. The composition of this photograph is remarkable; every detail has been meticulously captured by Macfee's lens. From the texture of the weatherboarding to each individual strand of grass beneath his feet - it all adds to the authenticity and richness of this historical moment frozen in time. As we admire this print from Historic England's archives today, we can't help but be captivated by its timeless appeal. It serves as a reminder that even over a century later, there is still much beauty to be found in both people and places from days gone by.
