EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a moment in the construction of Vintners Place, located in the heart of London's City. The image showcases the supporting steel frame that braces the south end facade of Thames House, as seen from below. It is a testament to the intricate engineering and craftsmanship involved in creating such architectural marvels. Vintners Place seamlessly blends modernity with history by preserving and incorporating the Queen Street Place facade of Thames House into its design. This decision highlights a commitment to conservation and protection of London's rich heritage. However, it also required demolishing the rear portion of Thames House while separating off and renaming Five Kings House at its northern corner on Upper Thames Street. The photograph evokes a sense of awe as one marvels at both the strength and elegance displayed by this supporting steel frame during its construction phase in the 1990s. It serves as a reminder that even amidst progress, there is value in honoring our past. Historic England Archive has beautifully captured this significant moment through their lens, allowing us to appreciate not only the physical structure but also the historical significance behind it. This image stands as a tribute to those who have contributed to shaping London's skyline over time - architects, engineers, builders - all working together to create lasting landmarks for future generations to admire.
