EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the bustling Bolting Cloth Factory, located in Frogmore, Wandsworth, Greater London. The image showcases the grand front elevation of Blackmore's factory, standing proudly alongside neighboring houses at the corner of Frogmore and Hill's Yard. This snapshot was captured before 1910 when these historic buildings still stood tall. The significance of this factory lies in its production of bolting cloth - a sturdy woven fabric made from fine silk or nylon mesh. Primarily used for screen printing and embroidery purposes, bolting cloth played a vital role in the textile industry during the 19th century. Sadly, these magnificent structures have long been demolished, making way for modern developments. Today, on the west side of Frogmore and Armoury Way junction stands part of Fullers House flats while other buildings occupy this once industrious site. Transporting us to an era filled with urban charm and hardworking individuals, this photograph captures not only a textile mill but also glimpses into Georgian architecture. The presence of people going about their daily lives adds depth to this historical scene. Additionally, elements such as gas lamps add an enchanting touch to the overall composition. Preserved by Historic England Archive, this remarkable image serves as a testament to our rich industrial heritage that continues to shape our present-day society.
