Archosaur Creature Dinosaur Extinct Hamburg Prehistoric Reptile Tiere Urwelt

EDITORS COMMENTS
This chromolithograph illustration showcases the enigmatic figure of the Aetosaurus ferratus, an extinct genus of archosaur reptile belonging to the Panserechse family. Depicted in vibrant colors, this majestic creature hails from the Prehistoric World, a time long before the emergence of dinosaurs. The Aetosaurus ferratus, also known as the "lizard with the axe-like head," is believed to have lived during the Late Triassic period, around 230 million years ago. Measuring up to 12 meters in length, the Aetosaurus ferratus was characterized by its distinctive head adorned with large, serrated crests, which may have served as protective shields or used for display purposes. Its body was covered in small, overlapping plates, providing it with a formidable armor. This powerful reptile was likely a herbivore, feeding on the abundant vegetation of its time. This illustration was created by the talented artist F. John and published as part of the "Tiere der Urwelt" (Animals of the Prehistoric World) series. The series was released in 1910 by the publishing house in Hamburg, Germany. Chromolithography, a popular printing technique during that era, was used to bring the intricate details of these prehistoric creatures to life. This illustration offers a glimpse into the rich history of the natural world and the fascinating creatures that once roamed the Earth.
