EDITORS COMMENTS
Albert I, King of the Belgians (1875-1934) and his wife Elisabeth of Bavaria (1876-1965) in an elegant formal portrait. Albert, dressed in military uniform with the insignia of the Order of the Leopold, sits confidently on a throne, his hand resting on a scepter. His wife, Elisabeth, wearing a flowing white gown and a crown adorned with pearls and diamonds, stands beside him, her hand gently touching his shoulder. The background is filled with ornate gold ovals and the Belgian and Bavarian flags. Albert I, born Albert Léopold Marie Guillaume don Robert, became King of the Belgians on February 17, 1909, following the death of his father, Leopold II. He ruled until his death in 1934. Albert was known for his love of the outdoors and his dedication to the welfare of his people. He was a popular monarch who was respected for his integrity and his commitment to the constitution. Elisabeth, born Infanta Elisabeth of Bavaria, was the eldest daughter of Duke Ludwig III of Bavaria. She married Albert in 1900 and was Queen of the Belgians from 1909 until her husband's death. Elisabeth was known for her beauty, her charm, and her generosity. She was deeply involved in charitable work and was particularly concerned with the welfare of children and the sick. This beautiful portrait captures the regal elegance and grace of Albert and Elisabeth, the King and Queen of the Belgians, during their reign in the early 20th century. The use of ornate gold ovals and the Belgian and Bavarian flags adds to the grandeur and historical significance of the image.
