EDITORS COMMENTS
"This powerful and imposing image captures the might of the Brewster F2A Buffalo, a formidable fighter aircraft that once graced the skies during World War II. The RAF's Buffalo fleet, depicted here in a line on the tarmac, were part of a larger effort by the Allied forces to counter the Japanese advance in the Pacific. However, the Buffalo's size and weight, which made it a formidable opponent on the battlefield, ultimately proved to be its downfall. The RAF's Buffalos suffered the same inglorious fate as their US and Dutch counterparts. Despite their impressive specifications, including a top speed of 290 miles per hour and a range of over 1,000 miles, the Buffalos were outmaneuvered and outgunned by the Japanese Zero fighter. The Buffalos were also prone to engine failure, which further hampered their effectiveness in combat. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by the Allied forces during the Pacific War. The Buffalos, once hailed as the saviors of the skies, were ultimately unable to match the agility and firepower of their Japanese adversaries. The image also underscores the importance of technological superiority in the realm of aviation and the constant evolution of military strategy in the face of new challenges." This image is a historical record of the RAF's use of the Brewster F2A Buffalo during World War II. It is not to be used for commercial purposes and is available for rights-managed licensing only through Mary Evans Prints Online.
