Dog from Jungfrau Railway Polar Dog Colony

The kennels of the Jungfrau Railway Polar Dog Colony are situated just below the Eiger Glacier moraine. The Greenland dogs have lived here for nearly one hundred years. Their numbers have continually varied over the years and currently number about 20 dogs of all ages. In comparison to the total number of Greenland dogs in Switzerland - which has now reached 55 - this comprises a substantial part of the national population. The dogs live in several packs of four to five animals as suited to the species. The construction of the kennels was tailor-made to withstand the extreme weather conditions of the high-Alpine world. The dogs have free access to sheltered huts and interiors as well as round-the-clock access to open-air runs in fenced-in enclosures. This form of kennelling has been awarded a special certificate by the Swiss kennel Club

EDITORS COMMENTS
1. Title: "Jungfrau Railway Polar Dog Colony: A High-Alpine Haven for Greenland Dogs" Nestled at the foot of the Eiger Glacier moraine, the Jungfrau Railway Polar Dog Colony is a unique and historic refuge for Greenland dogs. Established nearly a century ago, these resilient hounds have thrived in this high-Alpine environment, with their numbers currently numbering around 20 individuals of all ages. The significance of this colony extends beyond Switzerland's borders, as it comprises a substantial portion of the national Greenland dog population, which has grown to 55 in total. These dogs live in packs of four to five animals, as is natural for their species, and are well adapted to the extreme weather conditions of the Alpine world. The kennels were specifically designed to withstand the harsh climate, offering the dogs access to sheltered huts and cozy interiors, as well as round-the-clock access to open-air runs in fenced-in enclosures. This innovative kennelling system has been recognized and awarded a special certificate by the Swiss Kennel Club. The history of the Jungfrau Railway Polar Dog Colony dates back to the early days of tourism in the Swiss Alps. These dogs were originally brought to the region to pull sleds for tourists, providing a thrilling and authentic Alpine experience. Today, they continue to embody the spirit of adventure and resilience that has long been associated with the Swiss Alps. As you gaze upon this image of the dogs in their natural habitat, you cannot help but be moved by their strength and determination. The Jungfrau Railway Polar Dog Colony stands as a testament to the enduring bond between humans and animals, as well as the rich history and traditions of the Swiss Alps.
