This photograph captures the enchanting presence of Josephine de Reszke (1854-1933), a Polish-Russian soprano who graced the world's greatest opera stages at the turn of the 20th century. Born in Warsaw, Poland, to Russian parents, de Reszke's exceptional vocal abilities were discovered at a young age, and she began her musical training in St. Petersburg. By the age of 18, she made her operatic debut in Moscow as Leonora in Verdi's "Il Trovatore," and her extraordinary voice and dramatic intensity quickly gained her international acclaim. De Reszke's career took her to the most prestigious opera houses in Europe and the United States, including La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, and the Covent Garden Opera in London.
