The Empire at the Palace: a one-and-a-half mile worlds tour. The Festival of Empire at the Crystal Palace (held from May to October 1911), featured the All-Red route, a tour by specially-built electric railway and mechanical boat, around reconstructions of various parts of the British Empire, and past buildings representing the Overseas Dominions. 1. The Festival of Empire at the Crystal Palace, held from May to October 1911, was a grand celebration of the British Empire's vast reach and diversity. This photograph offers a glimpse into the one-and-a-half mile tour, showcasing various reconstructions and representations of different parts of the Empire. Starting at the Canadian Building (1), visitors were transported through an intricately detailed recreation of Canadian architecture. The Indian Building and Bazaar (2) followed, where visitors could explore the vibrant colors and textures of Indian culture. The Australian Building (3) and New Zealand Building (4) showcased the unique landscapes and architectural styles of these distant lands. The Boats and Fisheries, House-boat and Motor-launch exhibition (19) showcased the latest innovations in maritime technology, and Empire Avenue (20) offered a scenic route to take it all in.
