Construction work began on the wheel in March 1894 and it was opened to passengers in July 1895. It had a diameter of 300ft, weighed 1, 100 tons and a complete revolution took around twenty minutes. The wheel got stuck in May 1896 when passengers were stranded for four and a half-hours. It was demolished in 1906-7 because it was no longer profitable. Date: 1900

Despite its grandeur, the Ferris Wheel's operation was not without incident. In May 1896, passengers were left stranded for an agonizing four and a half hours when the wheel came to a halt. However, this setback did not deter the public's fascination with the attraction, which continued to draw crowds until its demise in 1906-7. The Giant Ferris Wheel at Earls Court was a testament to the ingenuity and ambition of its creators, pushing the boundaries of what was possible in engineering and entertainment.
