Biblical Healing

EDITORS COMMENTS
This 19th century print depicts the biblical story of the Healing of Naaman (2 Kings 5:1-14). Naaman, a commander in the army of the king of Aram, was a mighty warrior, but he was also a leper, a debilitating condition that had left him feeling both physically and emotionally broken. Desperate for a cure, Naaman traveled to Israel, seeking the help of the prophet Elisha. Upon arriving at Elisha's home, Naaman was instructed to bathe seven times in the Jordan River. Naaman, a proud and skeptical man, was initially reluctant to follow these instructions, preferring the grandiose cures of his own people. But, at the urging of his servants, he eventually obeyed. As Naaman stepped into the Jordan River, he began to feel the healing power of God working through Elisha's simple instructions. With each dip in the water, his leprosy began to recede, until he was completely healed. Naaman's transformation is beautifully captured in this print, as he emerges from the water, his once-pale and diseased skin now restored to its natural, healthy glow. This historical illustration, created in the late 19th century, is a testament to the enduring power of faith and the transformative nature of God's healing touch. The intricate details of the print, from the flowing robes of Naaman and his servants to the verdant landscape and crystal-clear waters of the Jordan River, transport us back in time, allowing us to witness this miraculous story unfold before our very eyes.
