This experience sparked a lifelong fascination with the unexplained. Thurston's most notable work, "The Physical Phenomena of Mystical Experience," was first published in 1901 and went through several editions. In this groundbreaking book, Thurston explored the physical manifestations of spiritual experiences, such as levitation, stigmata, and ecstasies.
