EDITORS COMMENTS
This historical print captures the Hesse-Cassel children, offspring of Princess Margarete of Prussia and Prince Friedrich Karl. The siblings, from left to right; Wolfgang, Freddy, Richard, Philipp, Christoph, and Maximilian are all dressed in the classic sailor suit attire that was popular during Queen Victoria's reign. Princess Margarete was known for her unique distinction within the royal family as she had two sets of twins. Queen Victoria herself was alive to witness the birth of the first set of twins - Philipp and Wolfgang - and found great amusement in the news. The image showcases a moment frozen in time, offering a glimpse into a bygone era when royalty still held significant influence over society. Each child exudes an air of innocence and privilege befitting their noble lineage. Sadly, some of these young princes met tragic fates at such tender ages - Freddy perished in 1916 during World War I while Maximilian followed suit in 1914. Overall, this photograph serves as an important piece of historical documentation that sheds light on the lives and upbringing of these royal children amidst a backdrop of grandeur and tradition.
