HMS Royal Oak, British Revenge-class battleship completed in 1916, seen here at the beginning of the Second World War with sailors on deck. On 14 October 1939 the ship was torpedoed by a German U-boat at Scapa Flow, resulting in 833 deaths. The wreck is now a designated war grave, and an annual ceremony is held to mark the loss. Date: circa 1939
