The image, captured by the renowned portrait photographer Madame Yevonde, offers a glimpse into the intriguing dynamic between the two women. Irene Cholmondeley, the daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Lord George Hugo Cholmondeley, was making her debut into society that year. The Pavane, a formal dance popular during the Renaissance, added an air of elegance and sophistication to the event. The photograph shows Irene and Ina standing side by side, their eyes fixed on the aquarium filled with colorful fish. The reason for their fascination with the aquarium remains a mystery, but their shared interest creates a moment of connection between them. Their attire reflects the fashion of the early 1930s, with Irene wearing a elegant white gown and Ina donning a stylish dress adorned with floral patterns. The image, with its enigmatic subject matter and stunning composition, is a captivating reminder of the history and elegance of the 1930s.
