Bories, a French Republican conspirator, was among the many individuals who were falsely accused and sentenced to death during this period of intense political repression following the rise of the Directory government. The Four Sergents de La Rochelle were a group of soldiers who had been involved in a failed conspiracy to overthrow the Directory and restore the monarchy.
