One day, after completing this task, they collapsed and died, and Hera, in gratitude for their devotion, transformed them into statues. The sculpture is a prime example of the Kouros type, a popular form of Greek sculpture during the Archaic period. The figures are depicted in a naturalistic and idealized form, with broad shoulders, deep-set eyes, and a strong, muscular build.
