Martha Dandridge Custis Washington, affectionately known as Lady Washington, was an influential figure in American history as the wife of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Born on June 2, 1732, in New Kent County, Virginia, Martha was the eldest of seven children of Daniel and Frances Jones Dandridge. She married Daniel Parke Custis in 1750, and after his death in 1757, she married George Washington in 1759.
