Max von Laue: A Pioneer in Crystallography and X-Ray Diffraction (1879-1960) Max von Laue, born on January 9, 1879, in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, Germany, was a renowned physicist whose groundbreaking discoveries in the field of crystallography and X-ray diffraction earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1914. Von Laue is best known for his work on the diffraction of X-rays by crystals, a discovery that fundamentally changed our understanding of the atomic structure of matter. Max von Laue continued to make significant contributions to physics throughout his career, including the development of the Bragg equation with his colleague William Henry Bragg. Von Laue passed away on February 24, 1960, leaving behind a rich scientific legacy that continues to inspire and influence researchers in various fields of science.
