Mrs. Vernon Castle, née Irene Foote, was an iconic figure in American society and the world of dance during the early 20th century. Alongside her husband Vernon Castle, they were renowned as "America's Dancing Sweethearts," their success and high earnings making headlines. In this portrait from 1918, Mrs. Castle is depicted in an exquisitely elegant evening gown, the designer of which remains unspecified. The Tatler noted that for some time, Mrs. Castle had been a trendsetter in fashionable circles, with her impeccable style influencing America's fashion scene. Her stunning figure and graceful movements served to showcase her costumes to perfection, ensuring that what she wore became the talk of the town and what America wore the following day.
