EDITORS COMMENTS
Mythology: Leda, the Enchanting Queen of Sparta - A Colorful Engraving by F. Zmurko Leda, a captivating figure from Greek mythology, is depicted in this exquisitely colored engraving by the renowned artist F. Zmurko. Leda, the daughter of the Aetolian king Thestios, was famously seduced by Zeus in the form of a swan. This union resulted in the birth of several legendary offspring, including Helen of Troy, Clytemnestra, and the Dioscuri, Castor and Polux. Helen, the most famous of Leda's children, would later become the cause of the Trojan War when Paris of Troy abducted her from her husband Menelaus. Clytemnestra, on the other hand, would grow up to avenge her husband Agamemnon's death by murdering him and his lover Cassandra. Castor and Polux, the twins born of Leda and Zeus, were revered as the gods of agriculture and horses. They were granted immortality by their uncle Zeus, who placed them among the stars as the constellation Gemini. This engraving, a copy of a painting by F. Zmurko, brilliantly captures the allure and mystery of Leda, a woman whose life was intertwined with the gods and shaped the course of history. The vibrant colors and intricate details bring the mythological tale to life, making this a stunning addition to any collection of classical art or mythology.
