EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite handfinished chromolithograph depicts a stunning arrangement of Boronia, Crowea, and Eriostemon species, showcasing their delicate beauty and intricate details. The illustration, created by Jane Loudon and expertly handfinished by Noel Humphreys, was originally published in Mrs. Loudon's Ladies Flower Garden or Ornamental Greenhouse Plants in 1849. The Boronia species represented in this print include the Saw-leaved Boronia (Boronia serrulata) and the Crenated Boronia (Boronia crenulata), both native to Australia. The Saw-leaved Boronia is characterized by its serrated leaves and bright pink flowers, while the Crenated Boronia boasts deeply lobed leaves and white blooms. The Crowea species displayed are the Willow-leaved Crowea (Crowea saligna) and the Box-leaved Crowea (Eriostemon buxifolium). The Willow-leaved Crowea, also known as the Pink Boronia, is a shrub with willow-like leaves and pink flowers, while the Box-leaved Crowea, or Dwarf Box-leaved Crowea, has small, box-like leaves and white flowers. The intricate details of these plants are beautifully captured in this lithograph, allowing viewers to appreciate their unique characteristics and charm. The vibrant colors and fine lines bring the plants to life, making this a treasured addition to any botanical collection.
