Baron Bizarre Carnation Caryophyllus Cultivar Dianthus Exotic Horticole Hybrid Lillustration Linden Lucien Pannemaeker Tropical

EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning chromolithograph depicts a collection of bizarre Carnation varieties, belonging to the Dianthus caryophyllus species, raised by the renowned horticulturist Ed. Morren and sent to Baron O. Pycke de ten Aerde. The intricately detailed illustration was produced by the skilled hand of P. de Pannemaeker for Jean Linden's Horticole Illustration in Brussels, Belgium, in 1884. Carnations, with their rich history dating back to ancient Greece and Rome, have long been admired for their vibrant colors and captivating fragrance. The Bizarre type, a result of selective breeding and hybridization, showcases the limitless potential of these beloved flowers. Each Carnation variety in this illustration presents unique and exotic forms, with ruffled petals, frilled edges, and intriguing color combinations. The meticulous process of chromolithography, a popular method for producing high-quality color prints during the late 19th century, brought these botanical wonders to life. The intricate layers of color were applied to the lithographic stones using a complex system of water, oil, and grease, resulting in a vivid and lifelike representation of the Carnations. This illustration not only serves as a testament to the artistic and scientific achievements of the late 1800s but also highlights the enduring allure of Carnations as a symbol of beauty and elegance. The exotic and bizarre varieties showcased in this print continue to inspire horticulturists and flower enthusiasts alike, reminding us of the endless possibilities that lie within the realm of nature.
