This exquisite hand-colored copperplate print showcases the Common Dentex, also known as the Four-toothed Sparus (Dentex dentex), a vulnerable marine fish species native to the Mediterranean and the eastern Atlantic Ocean. The Common Dentex is a medium-sized fish, with an average length of 70 cm and a maximum length of 110 cm. It is characterized by its elongated body, large pectoral fins, and distinctive four canine-like teeth in its lower jaw. The Common Dentex is an important species in both commercial and recreational fisheries, and is highly valued for its delicious taste and firm texture.
